Artificial Intelligence has gained significant importance in medicine, particularly in nuclear medicine. Germany has been at the forefront regarding AI usage in radiology, medicine, dentistry, optometry, and podiatry. It has recognized the ability of AI to be integrated into different tasks in the healthcare system. Its outlook on AI is to utilize it as an opportunity to strengthen medicine rather than a threat to the health care team.
Innovative Investigation from Universities
In 2019, the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, published their recent study on utilizing artificial intelligence to improve their nuclear medical practice. This study was prompted by the demand for safety among radiologists to decrease their potential exposure to radiation by using artificial intelligence (AI). Nensa et al. (2019) wrote in their article titled “Artificial Intelligence in Nuclear Medicine” that they attempted to bring a conceptual classification of artificial intelligence into clarity. Moreover, they addressed what they assumed to be the fundamentals and technicalities of nuclear medicine, particularly their applications. The article also explored the potential impact of AI technology in the medical field, exceptionally in nuclear medicine but extending to many professional practices.(1)
