Healthcare delivery requires the support of new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data and Machine Learning to fight and look ahead against the new diseases. We aim to review the role of AI as a decisive technology to analyze, prepare us for prevention and fight with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and other pandemics.
The rapid review of the literature is done on the database of Pubmed, Scopus and Google Scholar using the keyword of COVID-19 or Coronavirus and Artificial Intelligence or AI. Collected the latest information regarding AI for COVID-19, then analyzed the same to identify its possible application for this disease.
We have identified seven significant applications of AI for COVID-19 pandemic. This technology plays an important role in detecting the cluster of cases and predicting where this virus will affect the future by collecting and analyzing all previous data.
Healthcare organizations are in urgent need of decision-making technologies to handle this virus and help them in getting proper suggestions in real-time to avoid its spread. AI works in a proficient way to mimic human intelligence. It may also play a vital role in understanding and suggesting the development of a vaccine for COVID-19. This result-driven technology is used for proper screening, analyzing, prediction and tracking of current patients and likely future patients. The significant applications are applied to track data of confirmed, recovered, and death cases.
This article compares two different models for screening COVID-19: an AI approach model versus a non-AI (conventional) approach model. The purpose is to either isolate or cure the patient. With the AI model, the physician matches COVID-19 symptoms with AI support through seven applications: 1. Early detection and diagnosis, 2. Monitoring of the treatment, 3. Contact tracing of the individuals, 4. Projection of cases and mortality, 5. Development of drugs and vaccines, 6. Reducing the workload of healthcare workers, and 7. Prevention of the disease.
With the Non-AI model, the physician manually screens patients, which prolongs getting the results since the physician is working with limited information. The study determined that the AI model was more accurate, had fewer screening steps, and focused more on disease control. The non-AI model was more complex, more time-intensive, and was a comparatively less accurate process. AI has not only proven to be an important tool in identifying and managing COVID-19 patients but can also be a valuable tool in the management of many other diseases.
