An Ambitious Canadian Project
In 1983, Canada started its journey on artificial intelligence after launching the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). CIFAR is a government-funded organization that supports high-quality investigation and expansion of knowledge in human, social, natural, and life sciences.(1) Its interest in leading the artificial intelligence era encouraged the Canadian government to invest around $125 million in 2017 to create the world’s first national AI program: The Pan-Canadian AI Strategy.(2)Together with the top three national AI institutes, Vector Institute, Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute, and the MILA Institute, CIFAR is looking to attract world-class researchers, advance national AI initiatives, and develop AI global leadership.(3)
